The city of Cachoeiras de Macacu is crossed by the Macacu River, the largest one of the rivers that empty into Guanabara Bay. Local economy’s foundation lies in fruit and vegetable farming and cattle raising.
The tourism has also been increasing in this region, mainly due to its enabling environment for extreme sports such as rappel and mountaineering, and for eco-tourism on behalf of its parks and ecological reserves and the beautiful landscapes.
